“Budgeting” A Means to Fantastic Financial Management

A carpenter uses a set of house plans to build a house. If he didn’t the bathroom might get overlooked altogether.

Rocket Scientists would never begin construction on a new booster rocket without a detailed set of design specifications. Yet most of us go blindly out into the world without an inkling of an idea about finances and without any plan at all.

Not very smart of us, is it?

A money plan is called a budget and it is crucial to get us to our desired financial goals.

Without a plan we will drift without direction and end up marooned on a distant financial reef.

It is advisable then, to create a budget and if you are married you need to work together with your spouse on all your personal finance goals. First you will need to take some time to figure out what your short and long term goals are to get out of debt and ways to save money for future purchases you may want to make.

Then plan your route to get to those goals. It is important to make sure your goals are realistic and something you feel you can attain, then make sure it is ultimately something both you and your spouse can live with.

A good budget is not like going on a harsh financial starvation diet. Because that will not last very long and you need a plan that will last long enough to reach your current and future goals. Something’s to consider in your budget are the amount of money needed for food, clothing, rent, utilities, car insurance, vacations, household items and also savings. Savings should always come first before any spending.

Even a small amount saved will help you reach your long term and short term financial goals. You can either create your own budget plan or find one on the internet that you can download. To find one on the internet you only need to type in “free budget forms” in your favorite search engine.

You’ll get lots of hits. After you find what you are looking for, simply print it out and work with your spouse or significant other to create your plan. Both of you will need to be happy with your new budget plan and feel like it’s something you can stick with.

Remember it was Bill Gates who said, “Patience is a key element of success”, and that is something to remember as you work on maintaining your new budget and ultimately reaching your financial goals.
